Cleaning Your Carpets Cleaning products help. If you have a light-colored carpet, trying to
keep it clean may be really hard. You can either rent or buy a steamer to periodically clean your carpet. If you rent, the
cleaning products will generally come with the rental, if you buy, you will have to purchase the cleaning products on your
own. You should first vacuum the carpet well trying to get the carpet as clean as you can. Spray the dirty areas with prespray
and the extremely dirty areas with extra prespray. Fill the steamer with hot water according to the manufacturers instructions,
and begin. Follow the directions for the machine to ensure you are using it properly. To remove the water from the carpet,
pass over the area with the water spray on, and again with the water spray off. Feel the carpet, if it is very wet, do a water
extraction pass over it again with the water spray off. Feel the carpet after the second pass, if it feels damp, you have
extracted enough water. Stay off the carpet for a day. To help your carpet dry, open windows and use some fans. Make sure
you don't use too much water as it can soak the wood underneath ruining it. To keep your carpet cleaner longer, steam it with
a mixture of water and vineger (1 cup vinegar to 1 gallon water). Cleaning products can also help.
